Privacy Policy

Version 2.0 · Last updated 10 October 2026

Dora Canal Court Inc. operates doracanalcourt.com and eight vacation rental cottages at 224 S Lake Avenue, Tavares, Florida 32778. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how you can have it removed. We have written it in plain language and kept it specific to what we actually do.

What we collect, and why

When you make a booking. Your name, email address, phone number, postal address, country, the cottage and dates you have reserved, the number of guests, the names of the other guests staying with you, and a phone number for your second guest. We also keep any notes you send us. We need this to hold your reservation, to let you in, to contact you about your stay, and to meet our obligations as a Florida lodging operator.

A photo of your government-issued ID. We ask for this at checkout to confirm that the person booking is the person staying, and to meet the minimum age requirement for our cottages. This is the most sensitive thing we hold and we treat it separately — see below.

If you bring an overnight visitor who is not named on your reservation, our Terms require them to be approved in advance and we may ask to see photo identification for them. Where we keep a copy, we hold it exactly as we hold yours, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Your estimated arrival time, so our property manager can meet you at your cottage.

If you travel with a dog — Cottage 34 only — the dog’s breed, size and coat type.

When you use our contact form. Your name, email, phone number and message. These reach us by email at contact@doracanalcourt.com and are also stored in our website’s database. Messages sent through the contact form we used before, from September 2023 to August 2026, are kept there too.

When you visit the site. Standard web server logs, and page-view statistics collected through Jetpack, a service operated by Automattic. Some images are delivered through Automattic’s image service, which means your IP address is visible to Automattic when those images load. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.

Your photo ID

We hold ID images differently from everything else, so here is exactly what happens to them.

  • They are stored in a directory that is blocked from public access. They are not published, not linked, and not reachable by anyone typing a web address.
  • They are visible only to the owners of Dora Canal Court Inc. and to our property manager, who sees them through a password-protected staff page. They are used solely to verify your identity and age for your stay.
  • We do not share them with any advertising, marketing or analytics service, and we do not send them to the booking platforms.
  • You may ask us to delete your ID image at any time once your stay has ended, and we will do it promptly. See our Data Deletion page, or simply call or email us.

Security cameras

We have security cameras covering outdoor areas of the property. Footage is viewed only where there is a reason to — a reported incident, damage, or a safety concern. We do not share it with anyone except where we are required to by law, or where it is needed for an insurance claim or a police report.

Payment

This website does not take payment. When we confirm your booking we arrange payment with you directly, by credit card, bank deposit, check or cash.

We do not store card numbers. Card payments are handled by our merchant providers, Square and Clover, who process the card details directly. We see only what those services show us — that a payment succeeded, and the last few digits of the card.

If you booked through Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com or Expedia

Those platforms collect your information under their own privacy policies and pass us what we need to host you — typically your name, your dates, your guest count and a messaging address. Their policy governs the information they hold; this one governs what we hold.

Who else sees your information

  • Our hosting provider stores the website and its database.
  • Automattic (Jetpack) receives page-view statistics and, for images served through its image service, visitor IP addresses.
  • Google supplies the fonts used across this site, the reCAPTCHA that protects our contact form from spam, and the map on our Explore page. Google receives your IP address when any of these loads. The fonts load on every page; the Explore page map loads as you scroll down to it.
  • OpenStreetMap and Esri also supply map imagery on our Explore page, and receive your IP address when their map loads.
  • Square and Clover process payments.
  • Elfsight supplies the review and social feed panels in our footer; loading those panels involves a request to Elfsight from your browser.
  • The booking platforms, where your reservation came from one.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.

Cookies

Our site sets cookies needed to keep your booking session working while you are checking out, and Jetpack sets cookies related to statistics.

We also set one cookie of our own, dcc_utm. It is set only if you arrive through a labelled link — for example a link we have posted on Facebook — and it records which link brought you. It lasts 180 days, and if you go on to book with us it is recorded alongside your booking, so we can see which links lead to stays. We do not use it for advertising and we do not share it.

Google’s reCAPTCHA may set its own cookies on our contact page.

We do not use advertising cookies.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable measures to protect the personal information we hold, as Florida law requires of us.

If something goes wrong. If we discover a breach affecting your personal information, we will tell you within 30 days of determining that it has happened, as required by section 501.171, Florida Statutes, and we will tell you what was affected and what we are doing about it.

How long we keep things

We keep booking records for as long as we need them for accounting, tax and legal purposes. If you would like your information removed sooner, ask us — see below.

Your choices

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, or delete it. We will not treat you differently for asking. Some records we may have to keep for tax or legal reasons, and if that applies we will tell you which and why rather than simply refusing.

To make a request, call (352) 978-3914, email contact@doracanalcourt.com, or see our Data Deletion page.

Children

Our cottages are adults-only and our website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

A note on privacy laws

We are a small Florida business. We are not large enough to be covered by the Florida Digital Bill of Rights or by California’s privacy laws, and we do not operate in the EU. We follow Florida’s data-protection and breach-notification requirements, and we will honour a request to see, correct or delete your information from anyone who asks, wherever you live.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
